During the council meeting on June 27,2023, Kathleen Dolan addressed the recent gun violence incident in Summit during the public comment session. She noted that New Jersey is seeing “soaring rates” of gun permit requests and approvals as well as illegally owned guns. She asked what the council plans to do to address the issue. Dolan suggested better communication and education regarding gun safety.
